Expreso Internacional Ormeño, founded in 1976 by Joaquín Ormeño Cabrera, was one of the most iconic land transportation companies in Peru. Known for its innovative international routes, it connected Peru with countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, and Brazil.
Its Lima-Buenos Aires route, spanning over 6,000 kilometers, earned it a Guinness World Record in 1994 as the longest land route in the world.
The company became a benchmark for intercontinental transportation thanks to its ability to connect key cities across the continent, offering comfortable and affordable services at a time when such travel options were rare. However, in its quest for expansion, it faced numerous challenges, including the modernization of competitors.
Despite its legacy, Ormeño struggled to adapt to the new market demands. Ultimately, the company ceased operations in 2022, marking the end of an era in Latin American land transportation.
Today, Expreso Internacional Ormeño is remembered for its ambitious pioneering spirit and for setting a milestone in the history of international land transportation in Peru.
