Sullana is the capital of the Sullana Province in the Piura department, located on the northern coast of Peru. It was founded in 1783 and is known as the "Pearl of the Chira", due to its location along the Chira River and its sunny climate.

Sullana is strongly influenced by various pre-Incan cultures, such as the Tallanes and Muchik, who took advantage of the fertile Chira River valleys for agriculture. Later, the area was incorporated into the Inca Empire under the command of Túpac Yupanqui, who consolidated his rule in northern Peru.

The city of Sullana has many tourist attractions, including its beautiful Plaza de Armas, where the Catedral de Sullana, also known as Iglesia Matriz de Sullana, can be admired from afar. This giant structure features a neoclassical design, with an imposing white facade and cream-colored details. It also has two symmetrical towers with bell towers that stand out in the horizon of the square, making it look like a giant castle. Inside, the church has a main nave with high ceilings and stained-glass windows that allow natural light to enter, creating a solemn and spiritual atmosphere for visitors.

Other notable places in the city include Parque Bolognesi, a charming spot located at one end of the Puente de Sullana. This park is surrounded by green areas, situated at an elevation that allows visitors to enjoy a view of the Chira River. In addition to this bridge, Sullana has another, much more significant and historical one: the Puente Viejo Isaias Garrido, which has witnessed the city’s evolution and was built long before the main bridge. Both bridges offer incredible views of the river and are part of the city’s architecture.

Sullana has a warm and dry climate throughout the year, with high temperatures and very little rainfall. It is classified as a hot semi-arid climate, typical of Peru's northern coast. The best time to visit is between May and October, when the temperatures are more moderate (20°C to 32°C), making walks and tours more comfortable. Moreover, the river landscape and agricultural green zones are in full splendor during these months, as crops are more visible.

To get to Sullana, you can travel by land transport. The Sullana Bus Terminal is located on Av. Panamericana Norte, near the exit to Piura. This terminal is the main point for boarding and disembarking interprovincial buses connecting Sullana with other cities in the north, such as Piura, Chiclayo, Trujillo, and Lima.
